Location![]() Coniston, and its surrounding villages, lies at the heart of the Lake District National Park and is easily reached by road from all parts of the British Isles. Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle are within a couple of hours drive, Birmingham and Glasgow slightly longer. Coniston itself is only 50 minutes from Exit 36 on the M6 (33 miles). Intercity trains call at Oxenholme with a local service to Windermere (15 miles). National Express coaches call at Ambleside (8 miles). Windermere Station is served by a 24hr taxi rank, and a local bus service does operate to Coniston village via Ambleside on some days. Coniston village has most amenities including a Post Office, Barclays Bank, Co-op store, Traditional Butchers and Grocers, News-agents and 4 hostelries serving real ale and good food.
