15/03/2008 - The Coppermines Sponsored Windermere Winter Series Prizegiving
Sponsors rarely get more than publicity out of their input to an event, but Philip Johnston, of the Coppermines & Lakes Cottages, ended up as one of the prize winners in Windermere Cruising Association's Winter Series. After the final race in the 11-race series Mr Johnston's own boat, Dark And Stormy was second overall. Series winner was Steve Goacher, winner of numerous National, European and World championships, in his Cork 1720 Goacher Sails. James Longden, in Limbo 6.6, Wizard was third. There were 46 yachts in the series with competitors from throughout the UK taking part. The crews of the three winning boats are pictured at the prizegiving. 07/03/2008 - The Bridge House Refurbished !

Backed by Coronation Street actress Sally Whittaker and Cumbria Tourism, Wastwater triumphed over the Gower Peninsula in Wales, Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland and Stangford Lough in Northern Ireland in the live final. Picking up the accolade on Wastwater’s behalf, Sally Whittaker said: “I’m really thrilled and hopefully even more people will go off to the Lake District now. This 'holiday job' led to his lifelong passion for The Lakes and the subsequent purchase of the ruined buildings in Coppermines Valley 10 years later. In 1971 the Monk Coniston kitchen garden was still in full production as the photo taken then by Phil here shows - Click Here for The National Trust Restoration Project This is possibly the only colour picture of the original garden to survive - unless you know differently !
