20/09/2009 - Coniston Walking Festival 2009


Conston Walking Festival 25-27 September 2009
The Coniston Walking Festival (25-27 September 2009), is now in its third year. This community run festival aims to reveal and celebrate the landscape in and around Coniston.

This years programme is packed with a diverse range of walks that have all been specially themed to enable visitors to not only enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Coniston area but also to learn a little more about the history, environment, landscape and people that make Coniston unique.

In addition to a full programme of walks to suit all ages the festival also includes talks and walks by famous personalities of British mountaineering, Rebecca Stephens and Leo Houlding and a demonstration of the work of the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team with (rescues permitting) a visit by the RAF Rescue Service.

A delightful beckside detached cottage that was originally the village's Blacksmith Shop is on the edge of Coniston Village and only a short walk to all the village amenities including local shops and pubs.

Overlooking Yewdale Beck this traditional Lakeland cottage has lots of charm and character with beam ceilings, wooden floors, open fire places and some original features.

From most of the rooms their are views to the garden, Coniston Village, and surrounding countryside.

27/07/2009 - Lake District Bluebird Garden Wins Gold!!!!


Lake District Bluebird Garden
The Lake District's Bluebird Garden won a gold award at this years RHS Tatton Show and certainly drew the crowds.

With attendance at the show up on last year large numbers of visitors flocked to view the garden and the replica of Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7

Our 'green' Estate Office
We hope you like our new look website......

Out office also now has a green look, but seriously for many years we have been using recycled local building materials to improve our cottages, together with masses of insulation, and controllable efficient heating.

Coniston even, now has its own hydro plant, able to power a lot of the village ..!


11/07/2009 - The Bluebird Is On The Move


The replica of Bluebird K7 being prepare to be transported to RHS Show Tatton Park 2009
Part of the Lake District's presence at RHS Show Tatton Park 2009 is the full size replica of Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7 which has been kindly loaned for the duration of the show by the trustees of the Lakeland Motor Museum. The replica was used in the making of the BBC film "Across The Lake" starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.

After much discussion regarding the transportation of the hydroplane from Cumbria to Cheshire, the replica is now safely loaded and will be traveling down the M6 on Thursday 16th July.

If you are on the M6 on Thursday morning don't forget to watch out for it on the move!


09/07/2009 - The Lake District Bluebird Garden


Andy Loudon constructing The Lake District Bluebird Garden at RHS Show Tatton Park
This week work commenced on The Lake District Bluebird Garden at Tatton Park for the RHS Show Tatton Park.

Pictured is award winning garden designer Andy Loudon constructing the stonework for the garden.

The key element of the garden is a drystone wall in the shape of an infinity symbol. This symbol is carried by all boats attempting the World Water Speed Record and was displayed on Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7 during his final record attempt on Coniston Water in 1967
