Grizedale Forest

Internationally renowned for its forest sculptures, Grizedale Forest Park offers the complete day out with an extensive range of waymarked paths, picnic areas, forest roads, tracks and bridleways. Theres is also a visitor centre and excellent tea room.

Grizedale Forest is a 25km sq commerical forest owned by the forestry commission but offer much to see and do.

With over 90 sculptures including some by Andy Goldsworthy visitors soon leav e the car parks behing and head off on foot or by bike to explore the forest and admire the beautiful views to the surrounding mountains. There really is something for all ages and abilities.

For a simple stroll why not try the Ridding Wood Trail - its only a mile long and it's tarmac so you wont even need walking boots! You can however leave the tarmac behind with a selection of seven other waymarked routes from 1.5 miles to 9.5 miles and varying from easy to strenuous.

There are five mountain bike routes for all the family from 2 miles to 14 miles but for the adventurous why not try the newly opened North Face Trail - some 16km. The trail offers adrenaline pumping sections of single track descent along with leg burning ascents contouring through oak woodlands and conifer forest. This challenging trail also gives the mountain biker tricky board walk sections through meadows, yet rewards success with outstanding views along the way.

Go Ape! is an award winning high wire forest adventure course of extreme rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides. Go Ape! and trek from tree to tree in the forest canopy. Two plus hours of adrenalin-fuelled fun, laughter and adventure at heights of up to 60 feet above the forest floor, all located within the beautiful surroundings of Grizedale Forest Park. Go on, swing by and catch some tree time.
