Located down a quiet country lane within the small hamlet of Broughton Mills sits Mill Cottage. A real home from home, Mill Cottage is the perfect retreat for friends, families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

The beauty of this cottage is that it really does enjoy the best of both worlds. A traditional country cottage in an idyllic location, combined with the proximity of all local amenities. The Blacksmiths Arms a quintessential Lakeland pub is a mere 200 yards from the front door and the market town of Broughton in Furness a 5 minute drive away. Lakeland villages of Coniston and beyond can be reached within 15 minutes by car along with the vast & peaceful beaches, such as Silecroft found on the western coast.

For larger groups of 8, Mill Barn (sleep 2) is located opposite and can be booked in conjunction with Mill Cottage.

Ground floor
A typical Lakeland porch invites you into the whitewashed property and doubles up as an ideal place to discard your walking boots, there's even a stone bench to help.

Upon entering the cottage, the inviting & spacious sitting room is full of charm and character - beamed ceiling, stone hearth with real fireplace, stone & parquet flooring covered with rugs & plenty of comfortable seating. There's even a 48 inch smart TV & DVD player should you get bored of the views.

The well-appointed kitchen enjoys a Rangemaster stove, gas hob, 2 electric ovens and grill, dishwasher, fridge/freezer & microwave. There's also a small utility room & W.C off the kitchen with washer-dryer. The kitchen extends out into the new dining conservatory, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the valley and out into the cottage garden.

Up a couple of steps from the far end of the sitting room is a separate entrance room with additional door to the driveway. This room is complete with boot rack, hooks, large downstairs bathroom & an air sourced heating system, the perfect place for leaving your outdoor clothes to air out.

Throughout the property walking guides, books and mountain prints adorn the bookshelves and walls, reflecting the owner's enthusiasm for the great outdoors.

First floor
Following the stairs up you have the option of turning left or right, turn left and you are presented with a comfortable twin room along with a cosy double room which offers fantastic views of the valley beyond straight from the bed.

Adjacent to the double room you will find the first bathroom, spacious enough for sharing between the two rooms. Wooden beams which cross the ceilings and walls work in harmony with the uneven floors upstairs to add to the warm character of the cottage.

Head back to the stairwell and turn left and you are presented with the spacious master bedroom and another bathroom. The master bedroom with large window and skylight offers a bright and private hideaway for the grown-ups, complemented by a feature bed and antique furniture. The bathroom adjacent, which is grand in size features a full sized central island bath, separate shower and views across the rear of the garden and fields beyond.

Local Activities
Broughton-in-Furness and the surrounding valleys are beautiful and tranquil areas well worth visiting and exploring. The landscapes here have changed little over time, with farming and forestry still very much in evidence. In springtime the nearby woods that dot the landscape are carpeted with wild garlic and scented bluebells, and away from the noise of the traffic the wildlife and bird song can be truly appreciated.

The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists of all abilities who enjoy escaping the central Lakes crowds. Peaks such as the Old Man of Coniston, Caw Fell and Greyfriar can all be accessed from the area. Should you be looking for something a little less challenging then the idyllic Lickle Valley, the Dunnerdale Fells and Beacon Tarn are all popular walking spots.

The largest town in the area, Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th Century and is situated to the south west of the Coniston Fells making it a great base to explore some of the quieter and most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Just a couple of miles from the village is the small hamlet of Broughton Mills and the highly acclaimed Blacksmith's Inn that offers great local food and beer.

A very enjoyable stay. Short of nothing you need. A spacious cottage with a well equipped kitchen, lovely living room with comfortable furniture, comfortable beds, impressive heating system and lovely bathrooms. What more could you ask for? Local butchers highly recommended. Many thanks!

What a wonderful week we spent at Mill Cottage. The house itself was very big and comfortable and so well equipped. Some beautiful walks from the doorstep with stunning views. A walk up to Broughton Moor is well worth it for the views towards the bay. Highly recommend the local pub 'Blacksmiths Arms' ? delicious food and friendly staff. We really enjoyed our peaceful break here.

What a beautiful cottage, a beautiful garden and beautiful location. Thank you so much for providing us with the perfect home to spend the weekend with two grown up kids, their spouses and the dog. We've run over the fells, run the Millom park run, strolled through fields of lambs, sat amongst the garden flowers, played cards, laughed and created happy memories to look back on. We all turned back into children playing on the rope swing and throwing rocks in the water, what a lovely river. Throughout all of this the sun shone and the skies were blue, perfect, thank you!

We have had a wonderful relaxing but at the same time, active holiday. Thank you for providing a beautifully restored cottage with great facilities, especially for grandparents and a family of four. The local area has so much to do, Ravenglass Railway a particular favourite. The pubs in the village have lovely food. Thank you.
