Local Activities
Broughton-in-Furness and the surrounding valleys are beautiful and tranquil areas well worth visiting and exploring. The landscapes here have changed little over time, with farming and forestry still very much in evidence. In springtime the nearby woods that dot the landscape are carpeted with wild garlic and scented bluebells, and away from the noise of the traffic the wildlife and bird song can be truly appreciated.

The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists of all abilities who enjoy escaping the central Lakes crowds.  Peaks such as the Old Man of Coniston, Caw Fell and Greyfriar can all be accessed from the area. Should you be looking for something a little less challenging then the idyllic Lickle Valley, the Dunnerdale Fells and Beacon Tarn are all popular walking spots.

The largest town in the area, Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th Century and is situated to the south west of the Coniston Fells making it a great base to explore some of the quieter and most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Just a couple of miles from the village is the small hamlet of Broughton Mills and the highly acclaimed Blacksmith's Inn that offers great local food and beer.

What a wonderful week we spent at Mill Cottage. The house itself was very big and comfortable and so well equipped. Some beautiful walks from the doorstep with stunning views. A walk up to Broughton Moor is well worth it for the views towards the bay. Highly recommend the local pub 'Blacksmiths Arms' – delicious food and friendly staff. We really enjoyed our peaceful break here.

Thank you for a lovely stay in a beautiful house which is probably the best we have been to!  Great walks and views from the Knott and from Great Stickle. Great food at The Blacksmiths Arms.

We have had a wonderful relaxing but at the same time, active holiday. Thank you for providing a beautifully restored cottage with great facilities, especially for grandparents and a family of four. The local area has so much to do, Ravenglass Railway a particular favourite. The pubs in the village have lovely food. Thank you.

What a beautiful cottage, a beautiful garden and beautiful location. Thank you so much for providing us with the perfect home to spend the weekend with two grown up kids, their spouses and the dog. We've run over the fells, run the Millom park run, strolled through fields of lambs, sat amongst the garden flowers, played cards, laughed and created happy memories to look back on. We all turned back into children playing on the rope swing and throwing rocks in the water, what a lovely river. Throughout all of this the sun shone and the skies were blue, perfect, thank you!
