Close to all the village amenities stands a tall and thin Victorian terrace, Dixon Ground. Perfectly positioned on the footpath to the Old Man of Coniston and Levers Water, and on the foothills of the crags behind, these terraced cottages are well situated for walkers, bikers and explorers keen to get straight onto the fells.

Number 1 Dixon Ground is the largest of the properties situated at the end of terrace. The house is large enough for 10 but if you have a bigger group, you could also take over Number 4 Dixon Ground just two doors up which will sleep and extra 4 in two bedrooms, thus extending the sleeping capacity and allowing groups of up to 14 to be comfortably accommodated. Ideal for those big family get-togethers and celebrations.

Though centrally located, with a pub within rolling distance, the Dixon Ground Cottages are pleasantly peaceful. With so many rooms, Number 1 is best suited to home large groups - of friends, extended families, walkers or just big get-togethers!

Ground floor
Coming in the backdoor takes you directly into the kitchen. A welcoming country kitchen with slate worktops and island workstation on hand for all your cooking needs; well-equipped, there's an electric cooker & hob, dishwasher, microwave & fridge/freezer. The adjacent dining area has the flexibility to seat up to 12 and retains some of its original features - an old wooden floor and unusual built-in wooden drawers.

The living room has a large and light bay window with an equally large leather sofa in it. A great spot for diving into your holiday read or just relaxing in front of the TV or a DVD on those wet weather days. There's plenty of other seating too, positioned strategically around the welcoming open fire.

First floor

Local Activities

Coniston is an excellent centre for outdoor enthusiasts, with some superb climbing, walking, water sports, fishing and cycling to be had all year round.

For cycling enthusiasts there are some fantastic trails to be found in the area and the delights of Grizedale Forest are only a short ride away. For runners of all abilities the Lakeland Trail series visits Coniston yearly offering 5k, 10k, marathon and half marathon options. A favourite events amongst visitors and locals is the annual Coniston 14, 13.9 miles of scenic beauty as runners of all ages lap Coniston Water. For endurance athletes the Montane Lakeland 100 & Lakeland 50 events depart from Coniston each July and a whole host of water sports can be enjoyed down at the boating centre. Lastly for those who come to walk the area, no trip to Coniston would be complete without a climb up the Old Man of Coniston.

However for those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground there's The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell and on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood the Victorian home of philosopher John Ruskin, where regular events and art courses are held. Should you just wish to relax during your time here then the tremendous landscape of cascading waterfalls, streams, lakes and mountains should help you switch off from modern life. Delights such as Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest are nearby and prove to be ever popular with visitors of all ages.
