A cosy cottage of great character set on a traditional Lakeland hill farm overlooking the beautiful Woodland Valley. Just 10 minutes' drive from Coniston village.  Lovingly reconstructed from the original 17th century byre (animal house!). The Byre Cottage offers a myriad of cosy rooms, rustic exposed beams, log fires and countryside views.

Access to the cottage is gained through the main farmyard entrance, dotted with blossoming flowers during the spring & summer months, just make sure to watch out for hens darting in and out of the flower beds upon arrival.

The Byre Cottage is perfect for those looking to experience a glimpse of traditional Lakeland, step away from our technology driven era and spend some quality time enjoying everything the surrounding countryside has to offer. It offers a great base for exploring families, outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers and those wishing to simply switch off. Please note that if you are looking for shiny mod cons, speedy internet connections, waterfall showers & underfloor heating then The Byre Cottage unfortunately won't fit the bill, this is a traditional Lakeland farm cottage and as such carries much more unique character and charm.

Ground Floor
Traditional Lakeland porch which welcomes you into the hall. From the hall guests can access a small separate shower room & WC. There is a cosy cottage sitting & dining room with Lakeland stone fireplace, colour TV, DVD & CD player. From the sitting room French windows open out onto to rear paved garden which offers panoramic views over the farmyard to the Woodland valley & beyond.

There is also a small country kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker, fridge/freezer, washing machine with dryer, which also enjoys views over the shared paved garden.

The yard to the front of the cottage is lucky enough to catch the midday and evening sun, from here you are welcome to sit, relax & simply watch the world go by.

First floor
Bedroom 1 - double bed situated at the front of the house overlooking the farmyard.
Bedroom 2 - double bed and views from the skylight to the fields and fells beyond.
Bedroom 3 - twin single beds perfect for little ones, again enjoying views from the skylight across the fields.
House bathroom with bath only & WC.

Outside
The farmyard whilst quiet in nature is home to a family of hens, ducks, a cockerel, farm cats & sheep dog named Roy (He's very friendly!). Sheep and Cattle also graze in the fields nearby, offering many a photo opportunity throughout the year.

The cottage enjoys shared access to a delightfully private paved garden overlooking the 'Hole Beck'. Offering an abundance of outside seating, undisturbed views and plenty of space for the little ones to play. This area is perfect for summer BBQ's, reflective moments and morning coffees.

Footpaths from the farm give direct access onto the hills & across the valley. There is even open access to the neighbouring field, perfect for tiring out your canine companion (The owner Sheila will let you know which field is best). Should you be looking to explore the surrounding trails and byways on two wheels then secure indoor storage can be organised with Sheila, suitable for mountain bikes, canoes & dinghies.

Local Activities

Woodland, Torver and the Duddon Valley, a beautiful and tranquil area well worth visiting and exploring. The landscapes here have changed little over time, with farming and forestry still very much in evidence. In springtime the nearby woods that dot the landscape are carpeted with wild garlic and scented bluebells, and away from the noise of the traffic the wildlife and bird song can be truly appreciated.
The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists of all abilities who enjoy escaping the central Lakes crowds.  Peaks such as the Old Man of Coniston, Caw Fell and Greyfriar can all be accessed from the area. Should you be looking for something a little less challenging then the idyllic Lickle Valley, the Dunnerdale Fells and Beacon Tarn are all popular walking spots.
