Why Lake District Short Breaks Can Recharge Your Batteries Quickly
We can all get a little overworked, stressed out or simply tired of the same old thing every day. Taking a break and getting away is often the best medicine and allows us to recharge our batteries and focus on the things that matter.
Heading to the Lake District doesn’t have to be for one long vacation with all the family in tow. Plenty of people head to the Southern lakes like Coniston and Windermere for a few days simply to have that all-important break.
There’s no doubt that, with the amazing scenery and the fresh air, it’s the simplest way to get yourself back on an even keel. Maybe you want some me time, or you’d like to be alone with your partner for a couple of days, booking a short break in the Lake District is probably the best thing you can do.
A Short Break is Good for Your Health
There’s plenty of research to suggest that constant exposure to stress can cause all sorts of health issues. Getting away allows us the time to switch off and relax, reducing our anxiety and giving ourselves some much-needed rest.
Of course, destressing can be difficult even when we’re away from work. That’s why location is just as important as the break itself. If you’ve ever sat on the shores of Lake Windermere while watching the sunset, you’ll know that it’s the perfect location for letting those worries wash away.
Of course, the fresh air and being close to nature are also good for our health. There are plenty of wonderful hikes around areas like Ambleside, Great Langdale and Honister Pass to get your blood flowing and some oxygen into your lungs.
If history is your thing, there are also some amazing buildings in the area and sites to visit such as Coniston Copper Mines. Once you’ve been for a day out, you can visit one of the many Michelin star restaurants and bars in the region or simply pop into your local friendly pub for a bite to eat.
Micro Breaks are Great Any Time of Year
Simply planning a short break in an area like the Lake District can fill you with a burst of vigour. There’s plenty of evidence that planning for a break can give us a mental boost and make us more productive because we have something to look forward to.
Most of the time, short breaks tend to be based on activities. You may, for instance, be planning to do one of the major walks around Windermere such as the hike up Wansfell Pike.
It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills such as mountain climbing, abseiling, water skiing or sailing. Or if you have a more artistic leaning, you may want to take up a short watercolour class and try your hand at painting some of the most spectacular countryside in the UK. The good news is that the opportunities are endless in the Lake District and there is something for everyone.
