The Coppermines Lake District Wedding Barn

Situated in the breathtaking Coppermines Valley, just a stone’s throw from the picturesque village of Coniston, The Coppermines is a unique and special Lake District wedding venue.

Once an instrumental part in the valley’s rich copper mining industry, the Coppermines buildings acquired in 1982 by the founder of The Coppermines Lakes Cottages who undertook an extensive restoration project, carefully preserving the character of the original structures to create one of the most distinctive wedding barn venues in the Lake District. Surrounded by impressive mountain peaks, cascading waterfalls and views stretching down the valley to Coniston Water, this beautifully restored 18th century wedding barn offers a one-of-a-kind backdrop for an unforgettable wedding day.

The Coppermines is a family-owned, exclusive use wedding venue, ideal for grand gatherings, small weddings in the Lake District, and everything in between. At the heart of the site is the Copper Wedding Barn, originally the copper store for the once working copper mines, which now serves as a fully licensed space for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, accommodating up to 110 seated guests. With its rustic beams and exposed stonework, the Copper Wedding Barn exudes the charm and character that define barn weddings in the Lake District, offering the perfect setting for couples seeking an authentic, countryside celebration.

For those who prefer a traditional church ceremony before joining us for their reception, the nearby village of Coniston offers several charming options including the beautiful St Andrews Anglican Church, the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and Coniston Methodist Church. If you’ve already completed the legal side of your marriage, The Coppermines also welcomes celebrant wedding blessings, allowing you to celebrate your union in a more personal and meaningful way. And for couples dreaming of a small wedding in the Lake District, we also offer bespoke midweek elopement packages.

Accommodation is provided in four traditional interlinked Lakeland cottages which together form one large house. This space can sleep up to 22 people and features four reception rooms, ten en-suite bedrooms and four outdoor hot tubs. Adjacent to the cottages is a large, level area ideal for outdoor celebrations. This space can accommodate a range of marquee or tipi sizes and is directly accessible from the main reception rooms. There’s also ample parking for over 50 cars, ensuring convenience for all your guests.

The Coppermines is proud to be one of the most distinctive barn wedding venues in the Lake District. Get in touch to find out more about our bespoke wedding packages and start planning your perfect celebration in one of the best small wedding venues in the Lake District, The Coppermines.
