Lake District Cottages in Coniston Village

In the heart of the English Lake District lies the historical copper mining village of Coniston. This Lake District village is perfectly positioned alongside Coniston Water and below the majestic Coniston Fells which include the famous Coniston Old Man.

We have the largest collection of Lake District holiday cottages in the Coniston area, so we are sure we can help you find your perfect cottage.

Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops including a grocer, bakery & butcher, as well as lively cafes. There’s incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man – a “must do” for many visitors.

The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. You can even enjoy a scenic lake cruise on The National Trust’s Victorian steam yacht Gondola.

Coniston Water also holds historical significance, 50 years ago, Donald Campbell chose Coniston Water for his World Water Speed Record achievements in his jet boat Bluebird, reaching over 300mph. In honour of his amazing achievements, a Speed Records Week is held every November.

The Ruskin Museum depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell. And from, Tuesday 19th March, you can see the iconic Bluebird K7 in the Bluebird Wing of the Ruskin Museum, making it a simply must visit!

There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, remote mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river, with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there’s spectacular off-road mountain biking trails, as well as stunning road routes through some of the country’s most beautiful scenery.

On the eastern shores of the lake sits Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food while taking in breath-taking lake and mountain views. The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.

In short, Coniston offers everything you could possibly want of a Lake District holiday – all right on your doorstep.
