Lake District Cottages in Torver & Woodland Valley

To the south of the busy tourist centre of Coniston lie the quaint Lake District hamlets of Torver and Woodland. This is a beautiful, tranquil and under-explored part of the Lakes, which is well worth visiting for its rural charm and stunning landscapes.

The views here have changed little over time, with farming and forestry still very much in evidence. In springtime the nearby woods that dot the landscape are carpeted with wild garlic and scented bluebells, and away from the noise of the traffic the wildlife and bird song can be truly appreciated.

The area is popular with walkers and cyclists in-the-know, who enjoy escaping the central Lakes crowds, while footpaths lead down to the shimmering lake shores of Coniston Water.

Should you work up an appetite after a day of exploring, the The Wilson’s Arms in Torver is well-renown for it’s local food and ale, while the pubs and restaurants of Coniston village are just a 5 minute drive away.

The village of Torver is connected to neighbouring Coniston via a disused railway line, offering scenic walks from Torver into the larger village.
