Here at The Coppermines Lakes Cottages we love the Lake District. So we are committed to promoting sustainability to help protect our local area and ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy our incredible part of world for generations to come.

Here are some of the ways we are making a positive difference:

The Coppermines Conservation Area pays a big part in our commitment to sustainability. Our 65 acre conservation area, close to Consiton village is being rewilded to encourage biodiversity and to encourage a balance between people and nature.

We have also planted over 3,000 indigenous trees saplings across the Conservation Area. You can find out more about our Conservation Area and its positive environmental impacts here:

Waste

Our waste and waste from our cottages is collected and sorted for recycling by Cumbria Waste. Their aim is to minimise the amount of waste that goes to landfill and to transform it into a resource that provides value to the local environment.

You can find out more about Cumbria Wastes’ recycling processes here

EV Charging

Some of our cottages now come with a dedicated EV charging point with lots more planned to be installed over the coming months.

Look out for the EV charging logo on our cottage listings or browse our cottages with EV charging here.

Towels with miles

Did you know that The Coppermines Lakes Cottages has its own professional laundry right here at Dixon Ground in Coniston Village? That means that much of our laundry for our holiday cottages has low or no miles to travel – some of it is even carried by hand and transported on foot, straight from the cottage to our laundry!

Our on-site industrial laundry helps save on fuel emissions and plays a part in reducing traffic impact on the local environment. We also operate a successful car-sharing scheme amongst our employees, to further help minimise traffic impact.

Park up and leave

All of our cottages are within the heart of the Lake District National Park and all have designated parking. Many of our guests park up their car when they arrive at their Coppermines Cottage and leave it their for the duration of their holiday. All of our cottages are equipped information and maps showing walks from the door and include local information such as shops, pubs and restaurants. Meaning a holiday for you can be a holiday for your car too – and that’s great news for the Lake District and helps to reduce the impact of car omissions on the local environment.

We’ve even created some free walking & cycling routes and maps you do direct from Coniston village. Click here for more information.

The Coppermines actively support the Fix The Fells campaign.

10% of all our log sales go to Fix the Fells. And you can help too! There is the option to add a Fix The Fells donation when placing your booking online.
