Our Company | Lake District Cottage Agency

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are local independent agents, owned, managed and staffed since 1982.

A business originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston who still owns the business today. We have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique self-catering Lake District cottages all situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Whilst we have added to our collection of cottages over time, our ethos remains the same: ‘‘providing self-catering cottages of quality & character combined with exceptional personal service’’. This ethos not only applies to our loyal customer base but also to each and every one of our owners.

Our team is small, therefore we are able to forge a meaningful rapport with both customers and owners alike. We also pride ourselves on knowing each and every one of our properties inside and out, meaning we can always give you, as the guest, honest and reliable information.

Our office is based in the pretty Lakeland village of Coniston, meaning we are never too far from any of our properties.

Book local, Stay local

Our friendly office team are on hand 7 days a week to help you get the very best out of your holiday.

No call centres, no complicated automated phone systems, just real people at the end of the phone, right here in the Lakes, ready to help.

Call us on 015394 41765. We’re the local experts!

Our dedicated team of housekeepers really are the unsung heroes of The Coppermines!

Headed by Michelle, our Housekeeping team is based at our commercial laundry right here in Coniston village. They work tirelessly on changeover days to ensure our cottages are spick & span and ready for you to check in and start having wonderful holiday.

From secluded mountain cottages for the ultimate escape, to snug village cottages designed for two, here at The Coppermines we have something to suit all needs and lifestyles.

We can comfortably accommodate up to 22 people in our larger properties.

We even have a licence to hold civil wedding ceremonies in The Copper Barn within our stunning Mountain Venue which provides couples the opportunity to celebrate their love within the most spectacular of surroundings.

Plus as a pet-friendly company, the majority of our cottages are pet-friendly. We know that no trip to the Lake District is complete without a man (or woman’s) best friend to assist you on the fells, and we wouldn’t want your four-legged pals to miss out.

.

Two of our beautiful cottages have even been also shortlisted as finalists in the 2023 Cumbria Tourism Self-Catering Property of the Year Award.

Cragg Cottage and Mill Pool Barn, both in Torver, near Coniston have the been recognised by the judges as offering exceptional accommodation to their guests.

We also recognise that no two customers are alike and that flexibility is key, which is why we are one of the only companies in the Lake District to offer short breaks throughout the year.

Full weeks, mid-week and weekend breaks are all available, so whatever your requirements are we are sure to find you the perfect cottage.

The Lake District National Park is consistently voted the UK’s number one holiday destination and has been awarded UNSECO World Heritage Status. With its endless views, vibrant villages and an abundance of activities on offer, it’s not hard to see why. Inspiring some of the world’s greatest poets, writers, and artists, and providing the backdrop to films, television programmes, and even music videos, we can’t help but find it a fantastic place to live and work.

So why not let us inspire you in planning your future trip? Our gift shop & office in Coniston is open 7 days a week. Visit us in person, call us on 015394 41765 or send us an email at info@coppermines.co.uk
