The Old Post Cottage, situated in the heart of Coniston is virtually on Church Beck Bridge. You couldn't wish for anything more central and yet the thick stone walls ensure that the cottage remains very quiet. Forming part of 'The Bridge Cottages', the Old Post Cottage is one of the oldest buildings in the village and as the name may suggest, the original village post office.

Ideally situated just a short walk from the church, local stores, gift shops, cafes and numerous pubs. Old Post Cottage is well placed for popular valley and mountain walks including the Old Man of Coniston.

In essence Old Post Cottage is perfect for couples, families and friends. Oh, and there's a hot tub available to guests, perfect for post adventure relaxation.

Ground Floor
From the private gravelled parking area, you enter a small V-shaped yet well-equipped kitchen, with slate floors, worktops and all mod cons including electric double oven & hob, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine/dryer and fridge/freezer.

A couple of stairs then lead into a spacious sitting room with its large leather sofas and armchairs, great for relaxing in front of the TV with its DVD player. A big slate open fireplace creates the perfect focal point, and is most inviting on a cold winter's day.

The dining area has space for six and there are some interesting artefacts around - old farming and riding equipment and even some old skis!

First floor
Upstairs there are two double or twin rooms, whatever best suits your needs.

Bedroom 1 - king size bed or twin 2'6" single beds and en-suite bathroom with whirlpool bath/shower and WC.
Bedroom 2 - king size bed or twin 2'6" single beds and en-suite shower room with WC.

Outside
Hot tub available for your exclusive use. Please note access to the Old Post hot tub is reached across the gravelled parking area, immediately outside the property.

Shared use small beck side patio area with Bridge Suite.

Travelling with a dog?
We can offer free use of a 1 acre field in Coniston village, perfect for off the lead running, walking, training and playing. Use by arrangement only. Please contact the office for availability.

Hot Tubs: You will have exclusive use of a hot tub for the duration of your stay. We aim to prepare all hot tubs ready for guest arrival, however for the benefit of all users we must comply with very high Health & Hygiene standards when servicing and maintaining our hot tubs. In the event of the hot tub needing a full service following a departure, we cannot guarantee the water in the hot tub will be hot enough for use the night of your arrival.

Facilities included
Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi & initial bag of logs.

Available to hire
Travel cot & high chair.

Parking
Parking for 1 car - additional parking nearby.

Property Notes
The cottage is cosy and snug and can comfortably accommodate four in two bedrooms. For larger parties the cottage can be linked to The Bridge Suite next door, for an additional two bedrooms (and one bathroom) sleeping 8 combined or If you wanted more, you could also link, via The Bridge Suite, to Bridge House, which has room for 8, and so groups of up to 16 are easily accommodated together.

The three cottages, each self-contained, are able to be interconnected together in various combinations. The Bridge House & Old Post Cottage also both have the use of a private outdoor hot tub.

Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.

For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views.

The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.

In short, Coniston offers everything you could possibly want of a Lake District holiday - all right on your doorstep.

We had another great week staying at the Old Post Cottage. One of many weeks we have spent there with family members over many years! Just the perfect location to park the car in the courtyard on arrival and not use again until we have to drive home! Such good access from the cottage to the fell and village, plus good walks to Hawkshead etc. Perfect! We have already booked for the same cottage for Oct this year and next! Really looking forward to coming back. Thank you to the Coppermines team and to our housekeepers.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Old Post Cottage. The cottage is perfect and has everything you need, a real home from home, and is very cosy. Coniston Village is stunning, with plenty to do and see. Thank you so much for making it special.

We had a lovely time at The Old Post Cottage last week - loved the open fire, cosiness with the beams and hot tub. Thank you 🙂 Coniston is a lovely place, just big enough to have things to do with 4-5 pubs and amazing restaurant Bistro Steam and local shops, with the stunning hills and lake as a backdrop. Also, I placed an order for a Date Night Box with adayswalk.co.uk which was recommended, and the local food produce was amazing - potted Morecambe Bay shrimps, rump steak and creamy ice cream, cheese and Cumberland sausages. Thank You.

We've stayed in five Coppermines cottages to date and they have all been lovely, however The Old Post Office could be our favourite. Location is brilliant and although I did initially worry about road noise it wasn't a problem. I will definitely return, I love Coniston and your cottages.

A spacious little cottage that felt extremely homely. Great facilities and pretty much in the town. The hot tub was also a great addition and how dog friendly the company is. Friendly staff that shall help with any query that you have.

Already booked again for 10 days in 2020. All good; a great location for village and fell walking. We had a wet week this year, but still enjoyed! Many thanks to housekeeping and Coppermines staff. We will return!
