Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.

For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views.

The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.

We had such a lovely stay at Coniston View, Super homely and relaxing, with stunning views out the front. We were blessed by amazing weather during out stay and walked everywhere, not using the car until we left. Everything we needed shops, restaurants, gorgeous scenery - all within easy walking distance. Yes the climb to the cottage is quite a workout, but the views are just so worth it! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A lovely stay in a gorgeous cottage, perfect for a small family! We all enjoyed local walks and a lovely potter around the town and on the lake. We walked up the Old Man of Coniston on the last day with even our 10 year old managing it; though we do recommend going up the long way and driving to the car park! Thanks for a lovely stay.

Such a lovely cottage. Warm and welcoming, having arrived in heavy rain. Excellent base for walking. Have managed 2 sections of the Cumbrian Way as well as a horse ride on the beach. Have stayed in a few Coppermines cottages now and all are of a high standard. 'Till the next time! :-)

We've had a fantastic holiday staying in this lovely cosy cottage. A perfect place to come back to after some long walks on the fells. The location and views are beautiful and we'll definitely look to stay here again if we decide to stay in Coniston again. The front garden terrace is also a lovely option. For a spectacular, but tiring, day we can recommend walking (from the door) up to the Coppermines Valley via Miners Bridge and up to Wetherlam, Swirl How, Great Carrs, Grey Friar, Brim Fell and finally, Old Man of Coniston. And then collapse at the cottage!

We have just spent four week nights in this charming cottage. Everything feels new and the furnishings are lovely. The cottage is up a very steep incline (typical of the location), but the Sun Inn is only five minutes down the road. The service there was second to none. The village is delightful and Hutchinson's is a local shop that sells absolutely everything. We, along with our 20 year old daughter have had the best time and we all agree that the time flew by. We would definitely go again. Thank you.
