Situated on the outskirts of Satterthwaite village, within the tranquil Grizedale Valley lies the delightful, Grade II listed Low Bowkerstead. A traditional 17th Century whitewashed cottage in the most idyllic of settings.

Straight from a picturesque Lakeland scene, the cottage sits in the middle of open farm land, flanked by the dense forest beyond. A wonderful, quiet & romantic location, the cottage is ideal for those looking to truly switch off.

Gentle pastimes such as bird watching and low level walking can be enjoyed straight from the door, however adventure is not too far away with Grizedale's Visitor's Centre, mountain bike trails & bike hire, over 50 sculptures throughout the forest and Go Ape tree top adventure and zip trekking nearby.

Perfectly positioned this comfortable cottage really does enjoy the best of both worlds. A peaceful rural setting yet only a short drive to the Lakeland villages of Hawkshead, Coniston & Ambleside. In essence Low Bowkerstead is a charming country cottage, perfect for couples, families and friends looking for a picture perfect Lakeland hideaway.

Ground Floor
A traditional Lakeland porch leads into the entrance hall way with plenty of space to store coats and boots when you're not out and about exploring.

Off the hallway are two cosy reception rooms, the first snug room offers comfortable seating, wood burning stove and TV with DVD player. The second, a slightly larger room again offers comfortable seating, log fire, TV, table and chairs. Both perfect spaces to either come together, spread out, sit back and simply relax.

At the end of the hallway is the well-appointed cottage kitchen & dining area, benefitting from adequate seating, electric oven, hob, microwave & fridge/freezer.

There is a rear entrance porch off the kitchen, which gives access to the garden, a separate outside WC and cottage utility room, which has a washing machine and plenty of room for storage of bikes or wet weather gear.

First floor
Upstairs there are two cosy bedrooms and the house bathroom.

Bedroom 1 - with king size bed, field and forest views
Bedroom 2 - with twin single beds, garden, field and forest views

House bathroom with large walk in shower, hand basin and WC.

Outside
There is a small gravelled garden area with wonderful views of the forest.

Facilities included
Electricity, oil fired central heating, Wi-Fi, bed linen, towels & initial logs for the fire

Available to hire
Travel cot & high chair.

Parking

It is the place to visit to experience art in the landscape and art inspired by the landscape. It is also renowned internationally as the UK's first forest for sculpture. It has expanded into contemporary arts and provides unique gallery spaces for a diverse range of exhibitions - all inspired by the landscape. Guests can experience over 50 artworks throughout the forest. The collection features permanent and temporary sculpture from artists including Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Harris, and Lucy Tomlins, Charlie Whinney, and Greyworld

The forest is a working forest - with mixed broadleaf, coniferous and semi-ancient oak woodlands, upland heath and grassland. The Forestry Commission carefully manages the forest with a balance of producing timber with conservation in mind. Fantastic property in a brilliant location. Our family (2 adults, 2 kids & dog) stayed here for the start of our summer holidays. The cottage is ideally situated for those wanting to do local walks or head to Grizedale, Hawkshead. There is a pub about 15min walk (Eagles Head) which serves good food. No local shops so make sure you stock up before arriving. We will definitely rebook later in the year.

Second time here for all of us. Delayed by Covid and so so very glad to be back. We love this cottage and feel its so friendly and cosy. Area is fantastic and the sight of bluebells everywhere made our week. Cottage and equipment fantastic. Watch out for nesting swallows and blue tit and long tailed tits nesting on the roof. The week has gone by so quickly and we were bust every day. We shall miss it here, hopefully to return and get that feeling of being "back home" when we walk in the door.

The cottage was perfect. It had everything I needed and it was in a great location to explore Grizedale Forest and the surrounding area. The free Forestry Commission car parking was a bonus. I booked this cottage 2 days before my arrival and I was very impressed at how quickly my booking was dealt with and I received all the information I needed for my stay before I had even ended the phone call. Thank you.

Lovely week here, weather was good. Enjoyed a couple of meals in pub. Visited Grizedale, walked through the woods on the east side of Satterthwaite. Also visited Grasmere, Hawkshead and Ambleside. The forest track on the left on the way to village has a nice sculpture in the river.

Great holiday! Fantastic, clean cottage. Home from home. We've had some great days out. Grizedale Forest was a wonderful place, we visited it a few times this week and saw the change of colours from the trees. It was a very peaceful place with rippling brooks and lovely walks. Del the border collie loved this place and we all had a wonderful holiday. Del says thank you for the "good girl" jar; she's certainly enjoyed herself too.
