Along the banks of the scenic River Duddon are picnic and paddling spots aplenty along with some truly stunning walking and some truly incredible wild swimming spots in the crystal clear pools.

A drive through the Duddon Valley and over the Wrynose Pass is certainly not to be missed during your time in the area, it offers amazing views across the southern Lake District from one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the UK.

Duddon Bridge is also a perfect location for exploring the Western Lakes including beautiful Eskdale and the incredible Wasdale, Wastwater and Scafell Pike.

At Duddon Bridge you can explore the historic remains of Duddon Iron Furnace and from Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley visitors can visit the Memorial Bridge and stepping stones near the Newfield Inn. Seathwaite Tarn also is nearby, where fly fishing is available with a permit available from the inn. The village of Ulpha and its riverside setting is a favourite amongst locals and visitors during the warmer months. Over 300m of grassy riverside allow those who visit a chance to picnic, relax and wild swim in the various pools and shallows of the river.

Nearby Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th Century and features some great pubs, cafes and local shops. Broughton is situated to the south west of the Coniston Fells making it a great base to explore some of the quieter and most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Just a couple of miles from the village is the small hamlet of Broughton Mills and the highly acclaimed Blacksmith's Inn that offers great local food and beer.

Coniston and the rest of the South Lakes are easily accessible by car.
