Down a quiet, single-track lane on the edge of Coniston sits Park Gate Cottage. Dating back to the 1850's the cottage was previously the gate-keeper's cottage for the old Coppermine's rail line. Today, it provides comfortable accommodation for up to 4 guests looking for the best of both worlds, a peaceful countryside location, yet with village amenities close by. Guests at Park Gate cottage can enjoy a picturesque stroll into the centre of Coniston village via the former railway line. Here you will find an array of independent shops and cafes plus some great pubs. Head down to the lake to catch a lake cruise or hire a boat and explore Coniston Water yourselves.

Packed with period features inside including traditional beams, this cosy cottage also boasts a lovely garden to the front, where guests can enjoy a peaceful morning coffee or sociable evening drinks.

Ground Floor
Upon entering the cottage you encounter a charming open-plan sitting and dining room with slate floor, wooden beams, open fire and dining table for four. A cosy space for dining then relaxing fireside after a day spent exploring the glorious surrounding area.

Open to the sitting/ dining room is the cottage's country kitchen, complete with stable door to rear. Within the fully-equipped kitchen there is a hob, oven, microwave, fridge, freeze, dishwasher and washing machine.

Spacious bedroom with double bed, duel aspect windows with window seat and easy chair.

Family bathroom with bath, separate shower, W.C. and basin

2nd Floor
Twin beds in the eaves.

Outside
Garden to front with outdoor furniture. Across the lane and through a gate is the footpath into Coniston along the former railway line and away from the road. The footpath passes pretty railway cottages and offers glimpses of the lake as it gently leads you into the village.

We can offer free use of a 1 acre field in Coniston village. Use by arrangement only. Please contact the office for availability.

Please ensure extra care is taken when using the cottage's stairs as they are slightly steeper than normal.

Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.

For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views.

The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.

In short, Coniston offers everything you could possibly want of a Lake District holiday - all right on your doorstep.
