A detached, stone cottage offering spacious and characterful accommodation for 6 guests with riverside garden with mountain views. Close to the lake and with the village & amenities within a short walk Smithy Cottage is the perfect choice for any break in the Lakes.

Heading out of Coniston towards Hawkshead, just before leaving the village, there is a small stone bridge over Yewdale Beck. And just over that bridge is the detached slate Smithy Cottage, formerly the village blacksmith.

Perfectly positioned Smithy Cottage really does enjoy the best of both worlds. The hustle and bustle of Coniston and its amenities are just minutes away whilst footpaths to Coniston Water and the surrounding Coniston fells & forests can be accessed from the front door.

Smithy provides location, views, charm and character all in one cottage. Whether you're a couple or a group of friends escaping work life or a large family enjoying a countryside break, Smithy Cottage will fit the bill.

Ground floor
Entrance door from driveway into the charming cottage kitchen, complete with old fireplace and beamed ceiling but thankfully equipped with all mod cons including fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven, gas hob & microwave. Whoever gets tasked with washing up really won't mind as the window looks out towards the village, fells and Yewdale Beck flowing by.

In the kitchen there's proof that this was once a family home - on the wall preserved under plastic, are the ever-increasing heights of the family children.

The living/dining room is enormous and continues the 'new meets old' theme. Two comfortable sofas face a modern fireplace with log burning stove; old insert drawers and plates on the walls hark back to a bygone age; a bay window allows visitors to daydream looking out over the beck, bridge and fells beyond. A door from the sitting room leads out to a narrow terrace that looks down upon Yewdale Beck. Oh and there's a TV should you tire of the views.

Past the kitchen is a second, much smaller living room/snug, dominated by an old range, views of the river and its own TV. Ideal for some quiet time or a place for the kids to call their own.

First floor
Upstairs, a long landing leads to the three comfortable bedrooms & house bathroom with old wooden floors, views of the garden, fields and the fells around Coniston.

Bedroom 1 - double bed & an en-suite bathroom with W.C, sink & bath with shower over.
Bedroom 2 - king size bed or twin 2'6" single beds.
Bedroom 3 - king size bed or twin 2'6" single beds.

House bathroom with bath, hand shower over & W.C.

Outside
Riverside garden with seating area & borders.

Due to the cottage & garden's location immediate to Yewdale Beck (some steep drops to the stream), the garden is not suitable for unsupervised children or dogs. Please note the garden is not fully enclosed.

Covered storage area for mountain bikes, canoes, etc. (Please note that this is not lockable.)

Smithy Cottage is in a beautiful setting. The babbling brook alongside the cottage is a source of constant entertainment. Our Cocker Spaniel was fascinated by it! The cottage is in a perfect location on the outskirts of Coniston with plenty of picturesque walks and pubs serving lovely meals close by. It's the most dog friendly place we have ever been to! As there was 5 of us staying we needed extra crockery and whenever I requested anything, The Coppermines team had it sorted within the day. We had a fabulous holiday and will definitely be returning.

We had a wonderful holiday at Smithy Cottage. This is the forth year we have stayed in Coniston during Christmas & New Year, every time using the Coppermines & Lakes Cottages. The cottages are always clean, comfortable and welcoming, whilst the company being excellent on their customer.

Smithy Cottage is a wonderful cottage, in an idyllic setting and perfect location. The cottage is a fantastic size and super clean. The beds are so comfortable, we will definitely stay here again. Great for our dogs too as lots of space and a great (unsecured) garden with parking for two cars.

The cottage was everything we had hoped it would be. Spacious, very clean and well presented. The cottage is ideally located to explore Coniston and it's surrounding areas. The view of the mountains from the bedroom windows was wonderful to wake up to, and the sound of the babbling river eased us to sleep every night. I'm not sure that I could think of a way this cottage, or the service offered by The Coppermines, could be improved.

Perfect central location within a few minutes walk of Coniston centre. The cottage has a lovely garden to enjoy the wonderful weather we enjoyed this weekend and the stream running through the bottom was such a great added feature that sets the cottage apart from others.
