Coniston is an excellent centre for outdoor enthusiasts, with some superb climbing, walking, water sports, fishing and cycling to be had all year round.

For cycling enthusiasts there are some fantastic trails to be found in the area and the delights of Grizedale Forest are only a short ride away. For runners of all abilities the Lakeland Trail series visits Coniston yearly offering 5k, 10k, marathon and half marathon options. A favourite events amongst visitors and locals is the annual Coniston 14, 13.9 miles of scenic beauty as runners of all ages lap Coniston Water. For endurance athletes the Montane Lakeland 100 & Lakeland 50 events depart from Coniston each July and a whole host of water sports can be enjoyed down at the boating centre. Lastly for those who come to walk the area, no trip to Coniston would be complete without a climb up the Old Man of Coniston.

However for those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground there's The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell and on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood the Victorian home of philosopher John Ruskin, where regular events and art courses are held. Should you just wish to relax during your time here then the tremendous landscape of cascading waterfalls, streams, lakes and mountains should help you switch off from modern life. Lovely cottage in a great location. Great to be able to do walks from the door; lakeside to Torver Common and Monk Coniston to Tarn Howes. Delicious breakfast at Herdwicks and pizza from Fat Flour. Good beer at Black Bull sitting in the sunshine.

A quick impromptu mid-week break in an ideal location. Weather unpredictable but as expected this time of year, we were still out walking all day. Spotless, all mod cons and very comfortable. The location couldn't be more perfect. We will be back – in warmer climes to enjoy sitting by the stream.
P&J, November 2018

Had a very relaxing week in this lovely cottage. We visit Coniston 2 to 3 times a year and stayed in many Coppermines cottages but this has got to be our new favourite – shall definitely return.
J&S November 2018

Thank you for another perfect stay at Kirkbeck Cottage. Unfortunate weather this time but spirits not dampened as the cottage is a lovely place to come to after a wet walk on the fells. It is one of our favourite places to stay.
L,M&E, November 2018

We have had such a wonderful time here at Kirkbeck Cottage. Lovely home from home feel with everything you need. We were blessed with lovely weather too. Listening to the babbling brook and watching the birds every morning really made it for us. Would we come again? YES! And I hope it will be some time very soon. Thank you for a lovely holiday in your fantastic cottage.
J,M&J, October 2018

As always a really lovely break (one of our many at Kirkbeck Cottage) home from home. The owner does a fantastic job and always make us feel welcome with nothing ever too much trouble. We always look forward to our next visit. Five star service. Many thanks for a fab break.
G&E, October 2018

Although we know Coniston very well this was our first visit to Kirkbeck Cottage and we loved it. Great to catch up with old friends and we felt very comfortable. The wood burner made the cottage very cosy!

Lovely, lovely little cottage! We had a fantastic weekend and felt very at home in cosy little Kirkbeck! Has everything we could ask for and we loved the river at the front. A wonderful location, the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway. Thank you!
N,C&E, August 2018

Having only been married a week, we were excited to spend our mini-moon at 1 Kirkbeck. We weren't disappointed! It is a fantastic little cottage, beautifully presented and only a stones through away from our favourite ever pub; The Black Bull where the food and ale are both amazing! We have also cooked in the home from home kitchen, had amazing cake and hot chocolates at the Bluebird Café by the lake and a wonderful meal at Steam bistro. Our favourite evening of the week however  has to be sitting out by the beck with a G&T watching the shooting stars; unforgettable. Thanks for an amazing stay!
A&D, August 2018

So glad we found this little gem of a cottage. From the river running in front of the cottage to the many different birds coming to the table. We look forward to coming back to this comfy and spotlessly clean haven. Thank you for making us welcome.
J&J, July 2019

Cannot think of anything negative to say except that we should have booked a longer stay. A lovely cottage with everything you need in an ideal location. 5 stars.
A&E, June 2018

We've stayed in a number of cottages throughout the Lakes but this is easily the nicest, both in terms of location and accommodation. Fantastic walks from the door, a friendly village with some great pubs and brilliant weather. Couldn't ask for more, thank you!

We love Coniston and finding this cottage has made our visit even better. Climbed Helvellyn and ran the Coniston 10k trail race but still had a relaxing time in this cosy cottage. Enjoyed sitting by the brook with a beer, great meal at Steam Bistro. Already planning to return.
