Getting outdoors has never been as popular as it is now, and many people will be visiting the Lake District this spring, some staying at our wonderful, scenic cottages and having a brilliant time.

Looking at the stunning springtime scenery of the Lake District and the joys of Mother Nature, it is more common than ever that visitors want to protect this environment and ensure their visit is as green as possible.

Green Tips for Visiting the Lake District

If you are travelling to the Lake District, you’ll find many businesses that are doing everything they can to reduce the impact on the environment. If you trying to find new or green ways to visit us this spring, here are a few ideas.

1. Go Electric

Some people come from quite far afield and for most this requires the use of a car. While many people still drive petrol or diesel, if you want to reduce your environmental impact one solution is to hire an electric or hybrid vehicle for your visit. The great news is that the region is creating a strong infrastructure for charging electric vehicles which makes it an economical and eco-friendly method of travel.

If you are using a petrol vehicle, you can take advantage of the Lake District’s park and explore service. It means you can park your car in a safe facility and jump on a bus with other tourists to explore everything the area has to offer.

2. Getting on Your Bike

Of course, once you are here, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the Lake District without having an impact on the environment. This includes hiring bikes for your visit, which you can do at many locations if you are not bringing your own. It’s one of the most popular ways to see many parts of the regions and is great exercise as well.

There are plenty of amazing cycling routes in the Lake District, many with trail heads close to our country cottages, with amazing countryside and they provide fun for all the family, both young and old.

3. Walking in the Lake District

Another great way to enjoy the lakes and the surrounding countryside is to get out walking. With some good hiking boots and protective clothing, you can immediately take advantage of hundreds of different routes available. There are many trails suitable for people of all abilities not just around the lakes of Coniston and Windermere but into the hills and mountains as well.

Walking is the greenest activity you can engage in and gives you a great workout at the same time. Not only is it brilliant for physical health but can boost your mental health as well.

Other Ways to Stay Green in the Lake District

There are several other ways you can reduce your environmental impact including shopping and dining at places that offer home produced food and drink. Switching your party from single-use plastic water bottles when you go out for a walk and investing in a green water bottle can also make a small but important difference.
