How to Avoid the Crowds in the Lake District
The Lake District is beautiful, but it can feel busy when there are lots of visitors in the same place. Here is a quick guide to avoiding the crowds on your Lake District Cottage Holiday.
Time of Year in the Lake District
The time of year makes a big difference to the number of people visiting the Lake District. The busiest time of year is of course in the middle of summer when the weather is warm, and most schools are on holiday. The busiest times of the year in the Lake District are summer, then spring, then autumn and then winter. If you really want to be a local for your holiday, then visit between November – February (excluding the Christmas Break) and enjoy the peaceful villages and quiet roads that the locals and sheep enjoy!
Day of Week
If you want to avoid the crowds then choosing the days of the week when you visit also makes a big difference. Weekends are, of course, much busier than weekdays, so if you can visit midweek, there are fewer crowds and less traffic on our Lakeland roads. If you are visiting for the whole week, then choose to get out on more remote fells on the weekend days and save visiting the popular tourist spots for your midweek days.
Location, Location, Location
Choosing a less popular spot to base yourself when you are visiting the Lake District is the best way to avoid crowds and have the peace and quiet that so many crave when choosing to holiday in the Lake District. Popular and well know Lake District places such as Windermere and Grasmere attract a great number of tourists, so while it is nice to visit these places, choose to stay away from these in lovely villages like Coniston, where there are less tourists but still a wealth of amenities and a beautiful backdrop. The Coppermines Cottages have a huge range of cottages in Coniston, and the surrounding areas, perfect for a holiday away from hotspots.
Mountain Cottages
If you really want to get away from it all then choose a mountain cottage. The Coppermines has a range of cottages in the Coppermines Valley that sit away from everything on the side of a mountain. With walks straight from your door and a well-equipped cottage you don’t have to leave unless you want to, and you will most likely see more sheep that people!
Fell Walking Freedom
If you want to avoid crowds and get off the beaten track, then tackling some lesser-known waling routes and fells is the perfect way to leave the crowds behind. If you are a keen and experienced walker then avoid popular or easy routes and go for the walk less travelled to find solitude in the stunning fells of the Lake District.
Avoid Lake District Crowds
Not everyone wants to avoid the crowds in the Lake District as the hustle and bustle of busy villages and market towns can be wonderful to be part of, but if you do, then avoiding the crowds can be done with just a little bit of planning. Stay in a well-equipped Coppermines Lake District Cottage means you can plan easily to avoid any crowds, choose Autumn and Winter and midweek to visit, and if you really want solitude then choose a mountain cottage, so you can truly get away from it all!
