The Lake District is the perfect place to have a happy, family holiday. The Coppermines Cottages are the perfect place to base your family for a week or two in the most beautiful National Park in the UK. With lots to do for all ages, the Lake District will create family memories for years to come, here are a few top tips on keeping all the members of your family happy while on holiday in the Lake District.

Make a Plan

While this seems a little obvious to some, making a loose plan for activities, and food will help keep your family engaged and on track throughout your holiday. The Lake District may seem full of vast open spaces, especially if you stay in Coniston, but if you want to attend some of the popular attractions or book something special then planning in advance and perhaps booking a few things to avoid disappointment is a great idea.

Booking some restaurants or choosing some perfect picnic spots in advance will help keep your family fuelled and happy and you won’t have the stress of wondering what or where to eat every night.

Make the Most of Your Cottage

The Coppermines Cottages in the Lake District are all well equipped and have lots of space for you and your whole family. Ensure you make the most of what they have on offer. Many have gardens or great outside spaces so take advantage and eat outside as much as possible. Let younger members (our four-legged members) of the family run in the gardens or have some family games in the private outside space. For those cottages with hot tubs, take the time to slip into the tub and really relax and enjoy the serene environment of the Lake District views.

Be Safe & Enjoy the Outdoors

If you are not used to outdoor adventure, (or even if you are) be sure to heed safety advice if you are heading out into the fells or on the water. Book time with an instructor if you have never sailed or canoed before, and remember to pack a map, compass, (and know how to use them) snacks and appropriate footwear and clothing for your adventures.

Leave Free Time

This is the complete opposite of our first time of ‘make a plan’ but what we really mean by this is don’t over schedule yourself and leave a little space for adventures to happen. Whether that is some time to chase a rainbow after the rain, or extra time for the whole family to have a lie in after a fun day on the fells, some flexibility in your approach to your holiday will leave some time to discover things you never expected to.

Remember & Rebook!

Remember to take some photos of your family when you are out having fun, especially if you are a multigenerational family group, these memories and the photos associated with them will become precious over time. The next thing to remember is to rebook to come back to the Lakes soon, you will miss the fells faster than you think and they will be happy to welcome you back.
