1. Rydal Mount

Located near Ambleside, Rydal Mount and its surrounding gardens is the quintessentially English home. It’s where poet William Wordsworth lived and wrote some of his most famous works. Built in the 16th century, it’s open through most of the year.

The gardens are the perfect place for couples to explore during the spring and summer and there’s a small tea room where you can grab a quick bite to eat while enjoying the views.

2. Go Ape!

If you prefer an activity that’s a little more energetic, you might want to head to Grizedale Forest, where adventure company Go Ape allow you to climb up into the trees and explore the world from above.

For the real adrenalin junkies, there are zip wires to whizz down and Segway treks to keep you busy. In addition, there are numerous cycle trails and walking routes you can try.

3. Theatre by the Lake

A little bit of culture is never a bad thing and if you love outdoor events, Theatre by the Lake is something you should try out. Held on the edge of Derwentwater near Keswick, the stunning scenery provides the perfect backdrop to a series of plays and events that are held throughout the year.

If you’re visiting during the winter, their Christmas shows are highly popular but remember to wrap up warm.

4. Muncaster Castle

One of the most popular attractions in the Lake District is Muncaster Castle. It’s the perfect location for couples and the castle and gardens, as well as the owl and hawk centre, give you plenty to explore. The castle is thought to be haunted and you might just see a ghostly figure or two wandering around the grounds.

This is also a popular choice for couples who want to get married in a location that not only offers amazing architecture but stunning views as well.

5. Holehird Gardens

Overlooking Lake Windermere, Holehird Gardens is another popular tourist trap that many couples will appreciate. The romantic gardens are open almost all year round and are lovingly tended by a team of dedicated gardeners and volunteers.

From the walled and upper gardens to the amazing glasshouses, you’ll have difficulty fitting it all in over a day. Visitors are asked to make a small donation when they pay a visit.

6. Windermere Steamer

The lakes are a big part of this region as you might expect and there’s nothing more romantic than taking to the water on a boat to get a different perspective on the world. The famous Windermere steamer is a great way to take a cruise, enjoy the fresh air and it’s a brilliant way to get around.

7. Grasmere Gingerbread Shop

Finally, if unusual foodie treats are your thing, one place you’ll want to visit is the Gingerbread Shop in Grasmere. There has been a shop here since the mid-19th century and you’ll be able to sample freshly baked gingerbread as well as their award-winning rum butter.
