Christmas Cottages Lake District

Christmas in the Lake District is magical and the Coppermines has the most amazing range of cottages that you can enjoy in the lead up to, or over the festive period while enjoying everything the Lake District has to offer in the festive season!

Some of the main attractions for visitors are the Christmas fairs held everywhere from Windermere and Ambleside to Hawkshead and Cockermouth. Here we look at some of the festive fun you can have when you book a holiday cottage in the Lake District this winter.

1. Windermere, Early December

Windermere is a popular place to visit and it’s not just the amazing lake and wonderful countryside that surrounds it that brings people here. Every year since 2016 there’s been a fair that offers local produce and the perfect stocking fillers for Christmas as well as a whole host of bars and eateries.

2. Discover Dickens in Ulverston, Late November

If you love a good Dickensian Christmas you need to put some time aside on your holiday to visit the fair at Ulverston. This is a historic market town with some wonderful buildings that makes the perfect backdrop to the Yuletide celebrations.

There’s a competition for the best Victorian fancy dress if you want to make the effort and a fairground and live music along with all the stalls.

3. Cartmel, Late November

While it’s only on for a day, Cartmel to the south of the Lake District is certainly well worth a visit. The streets around this medieval village are filled with local artisans and the local community really push the boat out when it comes to their fair.

Whether it’s live reindeer or the lantern parade, if you want to get into the Christmas spirit, this is one not to miss.

4. Hawkshead, Early December

The Hawkshead Christmas Fair is certainly one of the most popular in the UK and renowned around the world.

With live music and carol singers to help build the festive atmosphere, the stalls are full of local food and drink as well as artisan crafts and the lights and decorations certainly bring Christmas to life.

5. Ambleside, Mid December

Another great place to get into the festive spirit is the Rydal Mount Christmas Fayre which is usually held during the second week of December.

Expect more than your fair share of carol singers and festive music as well as craft, gift and food and drink stalls. The gardens at Rydal Mount are also open for the family to explore and they look amazing if there’s some snow on the ground.

Whether you’re having a romantic weekend break or holidaying with all the family, there’s always plenty to do and see at Christmas time in the Lake District. You’ll find a warm welcome and a wonderful atmosphere that will definitely get you in the festive spirit.
