Lake District Pet Friendly Holiday Guide

Here at Coppermines Lake Cottages, we welcome all creatures’ great and small in our pet-friendly holiday cottages. To make things easier we’ve pulled together a list of pet friendly walks, pubs and cottages – with all this in mind why not come and explore the Kennel Club’s No1 Outdoor Destination for dog friendly holidays.

Walkies: The Lake District is perfectly suited to dogs and walking – with a stunning array of walks right from the door, vast swathes of open countryside, dappled woodlands, huge forests and the high fells and even glorious beaches close at hand. Here are just a few of our favourites.

Coniston to Torver Jetty – 4.3 miles round trip – 3 hours.

This is a lengthy low level walk along the shoreline of Coniston Water through open fields and woodland. If your legs get weary you can always opt for a scenic boat ride back on the Coniston Launch.

Tarn Hows Loop – 1.5 miles round – less than 1 hour.

A picture perfect amble along the edge of the picturesque Tarn Hows. Due to the level nature of the footpath this walk is suitable for all ages and abilities, there’s also an ice cream van in the car park!

Coniston Old Man 3.7 miles round – 4 hours.

A climb up this famous Coniston Mountain taking in lots of interesting industrial archaeology as you climb past the Coppermines Valley. Low Water can be reached half way up to the summit, the perfect spot to stop for a breather before tackling the last section. Once on top the views across the Lakeland fells and out towards the Cumbrian coastline are phenomenal.

Tilberthwaite to Cathedral Cave – 3.7 miles – 2 hours.
Starting from Tilbethwaite car park just north of Coniston this amble takes you through farmland and forest towards a majestic cavern known as Cathedral Cavern. Not too far from Cathedral Cave is the Three Shires Inn of Little Langdale, perfect for mid walk refreshments!
