Things to do in the Lake District during Easter 2025

 

Heading to the Lake District this Easter? Here are some family events and fun days out taking place in Cumbria and the Lakes this April. This year Easter Sunday 2025 falls on 20th April

Easter at Muncaster Castle 5&6,12&13, 18-21 April 2025

There’s lots going on a Muncaster for the whole family this Easter. There’s an Easter Egg hunt, a Sprint Trail and Easter Egg shield designing and making. Plus with the usual attractions including their Hawk and Owl Centre, Castle Gardens,  new Weapons Hall as well as the impressive castle itself, mean there’s a full day out waiting at Muncaster this Easter.

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway

Steam season at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway, near Near Bridge at the southern tip of Windermere, begins on 5th April, just in time for Easter.  This charming railway offers passengers the change to travel back in time to a bygone era of steam trains and traditional carriages through the Lake District countryside.

Easter at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

The La’al Ratty is a narrow gauge steam railway through 7 miles of spectacular Lake District scenery.

Running from Ravenglass on the west coast of Cumbria, these charming steam trains take visitors into the beautiful Eskdale valley, in the heart of the Lake District National Park.

This Easter, young adventurers can participate in their ‘High Speed Easter Egg Hunt’ during the train journey. Collect a quiz sheet from the main stations, spot the Easter letter clues along the track, and unscramble the letters to form a word. Submit your completed sheet for a delightful Easter treat. Open daily.

Millerbeck Light Railway Sunday April 20th & Monday April 21st 2025

Millerbeck Light Railway is situated in the private grounds of Millerbeck House, in the Lakeland village of Staveley-in-Cartmel, near Newby Bridge at the southern end of Lake Windermere and Fell Foot lakeside park. During holidays, such as Easter, this special railway opens its doors to the public, running train rides through the delightful grounds.

A perfect morning or afternoon out for families with younger children, this Easter at Millerbeck there’ll be special visit from the Easter Bunny with eggs galore.

Easter Egg Hunts

This Easter, hunts will be taking place at several National Trust sites within the Lake District National Park including Wray Castle on the west shore of Windermere, Allan Bank at Grasmere and Sizergh Castle near Kendal. Brockhole, on the eastern shore of Windermere is also holding a Golden Bunny Easter Hunt through their gardens and grounds.

Go Wild! at Brantwood

Wednesday 9th April 2025 10:30 AM – Wednesday 16th April 2025 3:00 PM (booking required)

There’s plenty going on at Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin on the eastern shore on Coniston Water this Easter.

Go Wild are wild crafting sessions including wild weaving, sock bunny making and Easter wreath making.

There’s also an Easter Trail (no booking required) taking place from 5-20th April, where young explorers can follow the clues and collect natural treasures to make their very own nature crown.

Herdwick Experience at Yew Tree Farm

What better way to celebrate the coming of spring in the Lake District than with some famous Lakeland herdwick sheep? At the Herdwick Experience, near Coniston village visitors can learn about, and interact with, some adorably woolly locals. Herdwick lambing season begins around 12th April, with the first lambs ready for cuddles around mid-May.
