The Lake District is the perfect place for families to visit and spend some quality time exploring all the local amenities. More and more visitors, however, want to bring their dog on holiday with them so finding a cottage that caters to pets is important.

Dog Friendly Accommodation Lake District

Here are just a few of the things to consider when looking for a dog friendly Lake District cottage.

The first place to look when trying to find a dog-friendly cottage, of course The Coppermines website, we have a whole section on dog friendly properties.

What to Look for in a Pet Friendly Cottage

One thing that can be useful for your Lake District holiday cottage is an outside tap and hose. During wet weather, things can get pretty muddy so being able to wash down your pooch will prevent dirt from being dragged through the cottage.

Another thing to consider is whether there is any garden space and how this cordoned off. Is there a safety fence and gate so your dog won’t wander out onto the road? A nice garden area is perfect for both you and your dog to relax and many Lakeland cottages have them.

Location is Important

Finding the right spot for your holiday is always important. If you want to take your dog out for evening walks, then being close to trail heads or open spaces will save a lot of trouble. If you have a noisy dog that is prone to barking, perhaps choose an isolated spot rather than one in the centre of a Lakeland town.

Are There Extra Rules?

It’s worth finding out what stipulations there may be – some places will ask dogs not to be allowed in certain rooms or on the furniture. There are some basic rules of etiquette when it comes to hiring a holiday cottage where you will be taking your dog. These include making sure that you clean up any dog hair afterwards and don’t leave pets alone in the property when you go out.

Great Choice of Pet Friendly Lake District Cottages

The Coppermines has a great selection of dog friendly cottages. Pets are charged at £5.00 per night and many of our properties accept pets.  Coppermines guests are also entitled to free use of our 1-acre enclosed field in Coniston village, perfect for off the lead running, walking, training and playing. Some cottages allow only one dog, but we do have some that accept up to four, see the individual properties for details. You can see them all here

Amazing Dog Holiday

Finally, remember that the Lake District is an amazing place for your dog to explore when you are on holiday, remember to keep them on a lead (especially where there is Livestock) where appropriate, but apart from that you can have some real outdoor adventures with your dog.
