Where to Find the Most Stunning Views in the Lake District

The Lake District is famous for its stunning views stretching across fells and lakes for miles and miles. So, when you are planning your cottage holiday to the Lake District it is important to plan the key places you want to see and know the key spots of beauty in advance.

To make this a little bit easier for you we have listed the top five locations, to help you find the most stunning views in the Lake District many of them only a short distance from most of our Lake District Cottages.

1. Gummer’s How, Windermere

Gummer’s How is recognised as one of the iconic locations in the Lake District. It truly is a walk with a view. Like many of the most stunning views in the Lake District, you must complete a climb before being rewarded with the beauty. The Gummer’s How view is 321 metres above sea level, located on the south-eastern shore of Lake Windermere. The walk is relatively easy, however does include a flight of rough stones. Start the walk in the Forestry Commission car park, Lakeside. Don’t forget to take in the views as you are ascending, as these will encourage you to keep going, and make it to the top. Once at the top you will be met with the view across Lake Windermere, as displayed in the image above. If timed right, the sun will be shining and reflecting off the water, giving the whole setting a warm glow.

2. Crinkle Crags, Langdale

Similarly, like the last, this stunning view is achieved by conquering the steep and in some places unstable rocks that make up the Crinckle Crag ridge. This view is located in the Langdale pikes. Once you have endured the hike, you will be met with the picturesque view of the valley of Oxendale. There are some excellent hiking routes around this location, some ranging from 8 miles long, such as the famous circular walk, and up to 15 miles long for the extended route. These walks are challenging, and see hikers conquer over a 1km ascent. However, no one can deny the stunning view you will see from the top.

3. Aira Force

Aira Force is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Lake District. The main reason it is so famous is due to the stunning views it provides, as the water rushes from a height of 70 feet. As with all the spots in the Lake District, Aria is set in a beautiful location surrounded by hillsides and century old trees. This stunning waterfall is regarded as a romantic spot for many, due to the garden like features, and greenery that surround it. The walk to and around Aira Force is less challenging then some of the previous views. A stone bridge is located above the waterfall, to allow visitors to take a stroll across, and get a bird’s eye view of the stunning waterfall.

4.Friar’s Crag

Friar’s Crag provides us with one of the most stunning views that the Lake District has to offer. Friars Crag is located on the lakeside of Derwent water, making it just a short walk from the town of Keswick. No hiking is required to enjoy this view, and the easy access makes it a popular favourite with families and couples of all ages. The open views of this enormous lake will provide you with lasting memories. As seen in the photo above, the location is also home to wooden benches, allowing people to sit down and relax, whilst taking it all in. If you are looking for the perfect picnic spot, then this may just be it.

As I’m sure you agree, the Lake District has hundreds of incredibly stunning views. So much so, that it can be challenging to decide where to go, and which views to see. Whichever locations you choose, whether you are looking to complete a hike before, or are looking for those spots easily accessible, there is something for everyone. One thing is certain, and that is that the Lake District will provide you with extensive views, and memories to treasure and the Coppermines has an incredible selection of Lake District Cottages from which to choose from.
