Why a 2023 cottage holiday in the Lake District is the perfect choice

Considering a UK based break during 2023? If not, then why not?! The UK has incredible destinations well worth a weekend break, a full week’s get-away or even a full fortnight’s holiday. But where to choose? The Lakes has long been a popular choice for visitors but perhaps you’re unsure if it’s for you?

The Lake District National Park has so much to offer: World class scenery, an array of outdoor activities, incredible places to eat, a friendly & cosy pub at every turn – it’s easy to see why the Lake District ranks as one of the most visited National Parks in Britain.

The largest National Park in England, the Lake District boasts diverse terrain, fascinating heritage and contains a wide variety of flora & fauna. As a result of this wealth of culture and its outstanding landscape, the Lake District is one of the most popular visitor destinations in the UK.

As the greatest upland region in England (containing all of the land within England at 914m above sea level) the Lake District National Park is home to the highest mountain in England; the imposing Scafell Pike. It is also home to the largest lake in England; the perfectly picturesque Windermere as well as the deepest – the wonderfully dramatic Wastwater.

These natural resources make the Lake District extremely popular amongst hikers, climbers,  cyclists & mountain bikers, photographers, water sports enthusiasts and anyone who simply loves being in the great outdoors.

Alongside our natural wonders, there is also a wealth of cultural history to discover, including a deep literary history, with writers & poets such Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin and William Wordsworth.

And for those who enjoy sampling the famously warm Lake District hospitality, there’s a cosy pub, a friendly café, traditional tearoom or stylish restaurant at every turn.

For the foodies amongst us there’s everything from fine dining to rustic yet delicious pub grub – it’s all here in the Lakes!

Why a self-catering holiday cottage in the Lakes?

Self-catering gives you the ultimate freedom to enjoy your holiday, your way. Lie in with coffee and croissants on the lake view terrace for breakfast? Yes you can. Up at dawn, pack a picnic and hit the fells for a day’s hiking? Yes you can! Nights out at lively bar or cosy evenings in, in front of your log-fire – it’s all on offer here in the Lake District.

Self-catering is the perfect option for families too – offering freedom and flexibility. All our cottages have fully equipped kitchens for preparing family feasts. Don’t feel like cooking? Well that’s an option too. Our village cottages like those within Coniston Village are conveniently located within walking distance of pubs, cafes and restaurants offering delicious local food in warm and welcoming spaces.

You can also get delicious, locally-sourced food delivered direct to your cottage’s door from A Day’s Walk. Even our unique Mountain Cottages, set between the towering peaks of Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, are able to accept food and supermarket deliveries – taking the stress out of packing food supplies for your break.

Why choose the Lake District as your UK holiday destination?

Well, quite simply the Lake District has everything. OK, we might be a little bit biased (just a smidge) but the Lake District is an incredible setting for any holiday. Awe-inspiring scenery everywhere you look. Unique and exciting adventures from climbing, to caving to zip-lining. An array of water-sports including paddleboarding, kayaking and wild-swimming on Coniston Water and other lakes. Family-friendly days out such as Brockhole, Grizedale Forest and the La’al Ratty Steam Railway. Challenging Mountain Biking Trails, exhilarating hiking, or accessible walking for all such as the picturesque route around Tarn Hows.

We even have some of the most incredible beaches in the country, mile upon mile of sandy beaches with an exceptional mountain backdrop. You won’t be struggling for space on a Cumbrian beach – even on the hottest days our beaches offer vast expanses of golden sand with no crowds in sight!

All this plus, the Lake District is one of THE most dog-friendly places in the UK, where not only are there endless walks to explore, rivers to paddle & lakes to swim, many of the pubs, cafes and shops welcome dogs inside too. Many of our self-catering cottages welcome dogs, meaning the whole family can enjoy a memory-making holiday together – with no one left behind.

From luxury, to hot tub, to pet-friendly, to mountain, to village – we have the perfect cottage to suit you and your family for 2023 and beyond. And when you book with The Coppermines Lakes Cottages, you’re supporting a local, Lake District agency who’ve been welcoming visitors to the lakes for 40 years!
