Torver and the nearby Crake & Woodland Valleys, are beautiful and tranquil areas well worth visiting and exploring. The landscapes here have changed little over time, with farming and forestry still very much in evidence. In springtime the nearby woods that dot the landscape are carpeted with wild garlic and scented bluebells, and is a place where the wildlife and bird song of the Lake District can be truly appreciated. The nearby village of Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.
For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views.
The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.
