Within walking distance of Far Sawrey, home to Beatrix Potter's Hill Top and good pubs, perched above the valley and providing views across to Lake Windermere and the fells on both shores, stands the large country house, Sawrey Knotts. Built in 1861 and once home to a Captain Dand, it is now a collection of beautifully converted apartments, each with its own character and charm.

Sitting high above Sawrey Knotts, looking down on all around is Tower Cottage. It looks like a castle but in truth is an old Victorian folly, complete with castellation. From up here, you feel like master of all you purvey, gazing over the panorama below - the local woods and hills, Windermere and the fells east and west of the lake. What a glorious spot for relaxing and enjoying life, hopefully while basking in sunshine!

Tower Cottage is a cottage with a difference. You'll find it hard to beat the views from its veranda or to match its central location, ideal for exploring the countryside around, making it great for couples, friends and families.

Ground floor
Entrance into the kitchen/diner; wooden beams and slate floor complement a fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine & tumble dryer. A large bay window with bench allows you to take in the views from inside if the weather is inclement. There is also a shower room with W.C just off the kitchen, great if you've returned home a little muddy.

The cosy living room has a large slate fireplace complete with stove and comfortable sofas to enjoy the fire, the view or both. There's a TV too if you ever bore of the aforementioned view.

First floor
A wooden staircase leads up to two bedrooms, both providing Lakeland views and en suite bathrooms.

Bedroom 1 - double bed, lake views, en-suite bathroom with shower & W.C.
Bedroom 2 - king size bed (or twin 2'6" single beds), lake views, en-suite W.C & wash basin.

Local Activities
The areas surrounding Lake Windermere are some of the most picturesque in the Lake District, picture perfect cottages, dreamy landscapes and quaint villages not to mention home to some of the ever popular Lake District hotspots. Loved by Beatrix Potter, it's not hard to fall in love with the village of Hawkshead and the surrounding hamlets of High Wray, Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey. Away from the crowds who gather at Hill Top, solace can be found on the shores of the nearby Esthwaite Water and Blenheim Tarn.

At the southern tip of Lake Windermere lies the quaint hamlet of Lakeside which as the name suggests enjoys open access to the lake shore. A favourite for families looking to explore, nearby attractions include the Aquarium of the Lakes, the Lakeland Motor Museum, the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway & Fell Foot Park.

We stayed at Tower Cottage, Far Sawrey from 12th-16th May 2025. This cottage could not have been more perfect. It was away from everything and everyone, set back and secluded at the top of a hill, where you then ascend about 25 steps. However, the view from the seating area (balcony) was breathtaking. All you can hear is the breeze through the trees, the sound of the birds and the far off sheep bleating. We watched the bunnies running about on the hill at the side and on the lawn. This was a perfect place for us to relax, unwind and forget the pressures of life. It was clean and fresh and had everything we needed as far as amenities are concerned, including a dish washer, and the bed was extremely comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property. If you enjoy some light walking there is a lovely little walk down the hill and across the meadow to Near Sawrey - about a mile each way - if you want to post a letter in the post box featured in the Peter Rabbit book. Alternatively, if you fancy a slightly longer walk, you can take a leisurely wander up Moss Eccles Tarn from just below this property, where there is a pretty little lake where William and Beatrix Healey used to keep a small boat. From there you can then walk down to Near Sawrey (for a drink at the Tower Bank Arms - also featured in a Beatrix Potter book) and back over the meadows to Far Sawrey, whilst picking up a piece of home made cake from a cool box in the lane for £2.00

This cottage could not have been more perfect. It was away from everything and everyone, set back and secluded. A perfect place to relax, unwind and forget the pressures of life. It had everything we needed and more. The dishwasher was a real luxury. Loved the views from every window. It was perfect. Thank you for a wonderful break.

Beautiful location and stunning views plenty of space in the house and well-equipped kitchen good water pressure for shower but water pump is a bit noisy, best to do food shop on route as limited local shops, a cuppa on the balcony watching the stars at night was a high light.

Beautifully located, a very cosy cottage that we have enjoyed staying in on three occasions. We love the views out from the windows and from the veranda, as well as having the gardens to enjoy. A real home from home. Overall the kitchen is very well equipped and the property is clean with good decor.

We have now stayed in Tower Cottage several times. It is a really well appointed cottage, and we feel very comfortable there. The location is superb; quiet and very private but near to local amenities including shops and pubs. All in all, a wonderful place to stay in the Lakes.

We thought the location was great, and the cottage was well-equipped, very clean and comfortable, plenty of hot water and good strong showers. We would book it again. The booking process and joining instructions were fine. Good strong broadband was also appreciated. We were delighted to discover that there are slow worms around the property.

If you are visiting the Lake District, Tower Cottage is an unbeatable stay! The location is great and very central to what is the quintessential "Lake District", not to mention a great pub just up the road. It is a cozy place with plenty of space and all the amenities you will need. Huge perks are heated floors in the master bath and views like you wouldn't believe. Coppermines management was very attentive leading up to our stay and left plenty of information for us for our trip. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A wonderful cosy cottage in a beautiful part of the Lake District. The views are breathtaking and there is a lovely balcony to enjoy the view, if the weather allows. The cottage is in a great location to explore the Lakes. The stairs up to the cottage can be a bit slippy in wet weather but otherwise this cottage is a lovely getaway. Would recommend.

We had stayed in Tower Cottage previously and really enjoyed it. However, we did note that it was a bit tired. However, on this recent visit, it had been thoroughly renovated. We liked it even more!

We were absolutely thrilled with the cottage. It was in a beautiful place with amazing views, our children loved it. It was very clean and provided us with everything we needed. We loved that the cottage had been a folly and was up in the trees. It was really fabulous. Washer/drier was really useful.

Booked a last minute getaway to the lakes and was hopeful this property would be good for our break... Firstly the views are by far the absolute best in the Lake District, just breathtaking! The veranda has infinite views to the Lake and mountains as does the master bedroom - sit in bed overlooking Windermere! All beds, bedding, towels are of great quality and comfort. The 3 bathrooms for 2 bed property fantastic. Everything is really clean, well looked after, well stocked and accessible. Washing machine and dishwasher proved helpful. Shame there was no wood or kindle but to be honest we had quite good weather so didn't need the roaring fire, I'm sure it's fab in the winter. The operating company are very helpful and responsive, dealt with every query and communication very efficiently. Would definitely return to this cottage and the services of the rental company. Very professional.
