Nestled within Dixon Ground, Coniston is the perfectly picturesque Bend or Bump. The cottage has been recently, and beautifully, renovated by its current owners to create a comfortable, cosy holiday home that you'll want to return to again and again.

Ideally situated close to the all the amenities of the village, Bend or Bump is an adorably quaint 17th century cottage which also benefits from spectacular walks, such as Coniston Old Man, accessible straight from the front door. This quintessential Lake District Cottage is simply packed with character and charm throughout, but with modern facilities to ensure a comfortable and restful holiday awaits all who stay here.

Inside, the historic cottage boasts a beautifully finished cottage kitchen and a beamed, yet surprisingly spacious, sitting & dining room which is warmed by a large log-burning stove. Upstairs are two comfortable bedrooms and the house bathroom. And it's upstairs that the reason this curiously named cottage is called "Bend or Bump" will become immediately apparent! While outside guests will be able to relax in the pretty patio garden and enjoy the open views across to the Yewdale Fells - Lake District perfection!

In short this endlessly charming cottage is perfect for couples or smaller families looking for a cosy, characterful cottage which is full of Lakeland appeal but with amenities and the great outdoors right on the doorstep.

Ground Floor
The main entrance to Bend or Bump is at the rear of the cottage. Upon entering you find yourself in a bright and sunny newly-fitted kitchen, flooded with light from the roof windows and beautifully appointed with shaker style units and modern appliances. Here you'll find everything you need for a self-catering holiday including an electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, fridge and separate freezer.

Beyond the kitchen is the beamed yet spacious sitting and dining room, with comfortable seating arranged in front a log-burning stove above which sits a large, Smart TV - the perfect place for cosy evenings after busy days exploring. There's plenty of room for dining too with a dining table and chairs for 6 - an ideal place for energy-boosting breakfasts and hearty evening dinners in front or a roaring fire.

First Floor
A stone staircase leads to the upstairs landing. It is here that the reason for name "Bend or Bump" becomes immediately apparent; a particularly low beam across the landing means a duck, or "bend" is necessary to avoid a knock or "bump" to the head.
Off this first floor landing you'll find the cottage's 2 delightful bedrooms.

Bedroom 1 features a double bed
Bedroom 2 is furnished with 2 single beds.

The modern and stylish family bathroom features a bath with shower over, W.C. and basin.

Outside
To the rear of the cottage is its patio garden complete with table and chairs and delightful views over open countryside to the Yewdale Fells. A wonderful corner of the Lake District all to yourself in which to enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

Excellent on all points! Our second stay at Bend or Bump & the delightfully wonky old place didn't disappoint. Clean & nicely decorated with everything thought of. Everything we needed for a home away from home. Perfectly located for Coniston & walks. Pub only a few steps away helped too! Only one negative: we would liked to see the views from the tops so could you please sort some fine weather for us next time. Much appreciated!

What an absolute gem of a place! It was our first stay at Bend or Bump having been to Coniston for many years. We couldn't fault anything, it's an absolutely beautiful cottage, a real home from home, in the perfect location. We couldn't think of a nicer place to come and spend our anniversary. We hope to return again soon.

The refurbishment has been beautifully completed. The cottage is a home from home. We don't want to leave and could spend longer here - and I never feel that way on a holiday/break.

Another wonderful stay at 'Bend or Bump' and this year no bump happened! We've had a really wonderful week. We love this cottage so much and it was made even more special as we celebrated our 1 year anniversary this week here and it couldn't of been more perfect. Lovely weather and great walks up to the Old Man, in Langdale, Borrowdale, Elterwalter, Cathedral Caves and trips to Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Dove Cottage, Hill top, Hawkshead. Recommend dinner at the Three Shires in Little Langdale and the Traveller's Rest in Grasmere. Look forward to coming back next year!

Our first family trip away with our 18 month daughter. We were so lucky with the weather, sun and blue skies every day. We all loved the log burner - especially the dogs. The Crown Inn is great, we enjoyed going for a drink of an afternoon. Tarn Hows and Lingholm kitchen/gardens were our highlight. A beautiful, warm, cosy cottage, very well equipped in a fabulous location. Loved the sheep theme. We can't wait to come back!

The cottage was very clean and tidy on arrival. A lovely warm cottage and very comfortable, with a well stocked kitchen. Comfortable beds and lots of hot water for bath or shower in the lovely sized bathroom when we came in from a days hiking. It was a home from home for us. The staff at the Coppermines office were always welcoming and happy to help.

This is the most beautifully renovated cottage and done to a very high standard. It was so peaceful and the view from the garden was lovely, a really nice place to sit out & eat etc. The cottage was well-equipped, especially the kitchen, which is fabulous. I could have moved in to be honest, we had such a great week as the weather was beautiful. Good parking and easily accessible from the village. We ate at the newly renovated Crown Inn twice, which was fabulous! We'll definitely book this cottage again as the garden etc was gorgeous. Loved the shower gel provided though & the fresh flowers in the kitchen were a lovely touch.

We booked our stay for my friend Kerri's 50th birthday walking weekend. The weather was fabulous and the walks in the surrounding mountains just wonderful. The car was left in the driveway the whole time. The house surpassed all of our expectations, clean and beautifully furnished. We especially enjoyed sitting outside, glass of wine in hand, admiring the spectacular view. A truly memorable weekend, thank you.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bend or Bump - a lovely cottage and an ideal base for the trip. We had fantastic walks at Grizedale Forest and Rydal Water, a cruise on the steam yacht gondola and lovely meals at the Black Bull, Yewdale, The Crown Inn and Tweedies (in Grasmere) - all dog-friendly!

Really enjoyed our stay. Very cloudy and wet on our journey to the Lakes, (Bank Holiday Monday!) so didn't get to see the stunning views till the following day. Luckily for us, the week stayed dry and we had fantastic weather :) We kept ourselves busy, Old Man of Coniston, Lakeside/Haverthwaite steam train, boat along Coniston lake, lovely meal at The Ship, Coniston (dog-friendly). Baldry Tearoom (Grasmere), Hawkshead - beautiful, Buttermere lake and a lovely walk around Tarn Hows. Thanks for a lovely stay at Bend or Bump.

What a fantastic find Bend or Bump is! Cosy but roomy, very well-equipped and a home-from-home. An ideal base to explore the area (which we have visited many times). Brilliant for the dog - the secure garden is great - even in the heavy rain. We would definitely recommend Bend or Bump as a cottage break. The log burner was used a lot because of the cold and wet but the weather didn't stop us exploring. 5 out of 5 - easily!
