Inside, the historic cottage boasts a beautifully finished cottage kitchen and a beamed, yet surprisingly spacious, sitting & dining room which is warmed by a large log-burning stove. Upstairs are two comfortable bedrooms and the house bathroom. And it's upstairs that the reason this curiously named cottage is called "Bend or Bump" will become immediately apparent! While outside guests will be able to relax in the pretty patio garden and enjoy the open views across to the Yewdale Fells - Lake District perfection!

Ground Floor
The main entrance to Bend or Bump is at the rear of the cottage. Upon entering you find yourself in a bright and sunny newly-fitted kitchen, flooded with light from the roof windows and beautifully appointed with shaker style units and modern appliances. Here you'll find everything you need for a self-catering holiday including an electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, fridge and separate freezer.
Beyond the kitchen is the beamed yet spacious sitting and dining room, with comfortable seating arranged in front a log-burning stove above which sits a large, Smart TV - the perfect place for cosy evenings after busy days exploring. There's plenty of room for dining too with a dining table and chairs for 6 - an ideal place for energy-boosting breakfasts and hearty evening dinners in front or a roaring fire.
First Floor
A stone staircase leads to the upstairs landing. It is here that the reason for name "Bend or Bump" becomes immediately apparent; a particularly low beam across the landing means a duck, or "bend" is necessary to avoid a knock or "bump" to the head.
Off this first floor landing you'll find the cottage's 2 delightful bedrooms.

Guests should note that a very low beam crosses the 1st floor landing at an approximate height of 4'10" (or 148cm) which may have implications for some guests with accessibility needs.

Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.
For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views.
The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.
