Quality Assessed

Close to all the village amenities stands a tall and thin Victorian terrace, Dixon Ground. Perfectly positioned on the footpath to the Old Man of Coniston and Levers Water, and on the foothills of the crags behind, these terraced cottages are well situated for walkers, bikers and explorers keen to get straight onto the fells.

Number 2 is a three storey cottage nestled within the terrace, up the gravelled path. The house comfortably sleeps 4 people with the added flexibility of beds for 6, making it perfect for couples, families or small groups of friends. If you have a bigger group however, you could also take over Number 1 Dixon Ground next door which will sleep an extra 10 in 4 bedrooms, as well as Number 4 Dixon Ground, two doors up, which sleeps an extra 4, thus extending the sleeping capacity and allowing groups of up to 18 to be comfortably accommodated across 8 bedrooms. Ideal for those big family get-togethers and celebrations.

Though centrally located, with a pub within rolling distance, the Dixon Ground Cottages are pleasantly peaceful. For keen walkers there is access to the spectacular Coniston fells direct from the front door. In essence Number 2 would suit families with children of any age or couples looking to relax and enjoy the local area.

For runners of all abilities the Lakeland Trail series visits Coniston yearly offering 5k, 10k, marathon and half marathon options. A favourite events amongst visitors and locals is the annual Coniston 14, 13.9 miles of scenic beauty as runners of all ages lap Coniston Water. For endurance athletes the Montane Lakeland 100 & Lakeland 50 events depart from Coniston each July and a whole host of water sports can be enjoyed down at the boating centre. Lastly for those who come to walk the area, no trip to Coniston would be complete without a climb up the Old Man of Coniston.

However for those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground there's The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell and on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood the Victorian home of philosopher John Ruskin, where regular events and art courses are held. What a lovely stay! Just perfect for us. Great location and several walks on our doorstep which was convenient for us without having to use our car. The cottage is cosy and very clean. We really enjoyed our stay - even the rain didn't spoil our week. Highly recommended. We are already looking it to book it again for next year. Thank you or making our stay wonderful.

Our sixth visit. Never disappointed. We have recommended Coniston Coppermines to friends and family.

Given the past 18 months we could have not wished for a better holiday. We are not new to Coniston, we've stayed there the past 3 years but it was our first time at Coppermines. The cottage was idyllic and we could have lived there permanently. I haven't got any negatives to say about this or the company - 5 star.

Stayed in this cottage approx. 10 years ago - love the modernisation. Coppermines are our preferred letting agency - we've stayed with you numerous times.
