Things to do in The Lake District this February Half Term

 

If you’re planning on a family visit to the Lake District this February half term then you might be wondering how you’re going to keep everyone entertained come rain or shine.

Luckily there’s plenty on offer in and around the Lake District to ensure that a half term break in the Lakes will create wonderful family memories to treasure forever.

So whether you’re staying in one of our Lake District Holiday Cottages this half term or simply visiting for the day, check out the activities below for great days out in the Lakes this February.

Grizedale Forest

From mountain biking to Forest Segway safaris and from Tree Top Challenges to forest sculptures there’s always plenty going on and lots of family fun to be had during a trip to Grizedale Forest. With a café, visitors centre and large play area there’s plenty to here to keep the whole family busy all day long. Sounds like your kind of place? Our Low Bowkerstead Cottage is located within Grizedale Forest!  The forest is also really easy to get to from all our holiday cottages in and around Coniston Village and Coniston Water.  Find out more about Grizedale Forest.

Aquarium of the Lakes

Need to keep the kids busy on a rainy day? The Lakes Aquarium located at Lakeside, Newby Bridge is home to hundreds of amazing creatures and showcases local wildlife from around the Lake District as well as featuring exotic species from all around the world. The Lakes Aquarium is also home to a pair of Oriental small clawed otters, the smallest of the world’s 13 otter species. Book online. Windermere Lake Cruises

Sit back, relax and take in spectacular Lake District views from on board regular cruises from Ambleside, Brockhole, Bowness & Lakeside.

The cruises are simply a must for those visiting the Lake District National Park this half term. The boats cruise up and down Windermere, England’s largest lake, with services available every day on historic ‘steamers’ and modern launches.

With the ability to hop on and off at destications along the Lake these spectacular voyages provide magnificent views of mountain scenery. Not to be missed! Find out more.

Safari Zoo Cumbria    

This popular attraction offers incredible animal encounters and is offering Half Price Admission during February Half Term holidays.

The zoo is home to over 1,000 rare and endangered animals in unique natural environments which enable you to get as close as physically possible to these amazing creatures.  There’s snow leopards, giraffes, southern white rhinos, red pandas, Arctic wolves and African Lions to name but a few.

Wander amongst lemurs, kangaroos, wallabies, capybaras and emus. Participate in animal feeding experiences or be a zookeeper for a day. A fabulous family day out – wellies recommended!

Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway

To celebrate this iconic railways’s reopening for February half term kids go free with their best teddy bear on the unmissable La’al Ratty! 

Catch the train from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World Heritage site, Lake District. Travel across the estuary, take in incredible mountain views as you travel in style to the final destination, Boot Station, in the stunning Lake District valley of Eskdale. 

A truly memorable day out for kids both young and old – a Lake District classic!
